B.6 Student Accommodations

The University recognises its obligation to provide a Reasonable Accommodation to students, when required, to reduce or eliminate barriers arising from a Protected Ground. Students requiring accommodation should request one as soon as possible. Information on how to request an accommodation, along with other important considerations in working together to identify Reasonable Accommodations are detailed in the Student Accommodation Policy, which can be found here: ucalgary.ca/legal-services/sites/default/files/teams/1/Policies-Student-Accommodation-Policy.pdf.

B.6.1 Accommodation of Students with Disabilities or Medical Conditions

Students who require an accommodation because of a disability or medical condition should communicate this need to Student Accessibility Services (SAS) in accordance with the Procedure for Accommodations for Students with Disabilities. To view the full procedure document see https://www.ucalgary.ca/legal-services/university-policies-procedures/student-accommodation-policy. Also, see sections E.6 Recording of Lectures and G.3 Final Examinations. For additional information on support services and accommodations for students with disabilities, visit ucalgary.ca/student-services/access.

B.6.2 Accommodations on Protected Grounds other than Disability

Students who require an accommodation in relation to their coursework or to fulfil requirements for a graduate degree, based on a protected ground other than disability, should communicate this need, preferably in writing, to their Instructor or the appropriate Associate Dean, Department Head or the department/faculty designated contact person. Students who require an accommodation unrelated to their coursework or the requirements for a graduate degree, based on a protected ground other than disability, should communicate this need, preferably in writing, to the Vice-Provost (Student Experience). The University of Calgary, located in the heart of Southern Alberta, both acknowledges and pays tribute to the traditional territories of the peoples of Treaty 7, which include the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprised of the Siksika, the Piikani, and the Kainai First Nations), the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda (including Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney First Nations). The City of Calgary is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta (districts 5 and 6).

The University of Calgary is situated on land Northwest of where the Bow River meets the Elbow River, a site traditionally known as Moh’kins’tsis to the Blackfoot, Wîchîspa to the Stoney Nakoda, and Guts’ists’i to the Tsuut’ina. On this land and in this place we strive to learn together, walk together, and grow together “in a good way.”
