Description

The laws of thermodynamics as they apply to biological systems: the hydrophobic effect, properties of water, electrolyte solutions and ligand binding. Optical spectroscopic methods including UV/visible absorption, fluorescence, and infrared as applied to biological molecules.

Prerequisite(s): 3 units from Biochemistry 341 or 393; and 3 units from Chemistry 353 or 355; and 3 units from Mathematics 249 or 265 or 275; and 3 units from Physics 211 or 221; and Physics 223.

Courses may consist of a Lecture, Lab, Tutorial, and/or Seminar. Students will be required to register in each component that is required for the course as indicated in the schedule of classes.
