Description
This transdisciplinary, experiential course prepares undergraduate students to serve as effective peer mentors in courses in the Faculty of Science (or other faculties) where a mentoring practicum may occur. Students gain theoretical knowledge of learning processes alongside practical facilitation skills to support peers in academic settings. Through engagement with educational research and learning theories, peer mentors develop strategies to enhance student learning outcomes, increase active engagement, and emphasize critical thinking. With faculty supervision, peer mentors complete a 48-hour practicum.
Prerequisite(s): 48 units and consent of the Faculty.
Antirequisite(s): Credit for Science 511 and either Science 507.18 or Arts 507 will not be allowed.
Notes: This course includes a 48-hour practicum as a Peer Mentor in your host class. Students should contact the Undergraduate Science Centre regarding consent to register.
