J.1.2 Appeals of Suspensions or Expulsions

A student appealing a suspension or expulsion for academic or non-academic misconduct may register for and attend classes, and participate in academic activities, pending the outcome of their appeal. Any restrictions levied as outlined in Section 4.4 of the Student Academic Misconduct Procedure and Section 4.7 Student Non-Academic Misconduct Procedure of the will continue pending the outcome of an appeal, unless the relevant Faculty or the Student Conduct Office determines that it would be appropriate to remove them sooner. This is at the sole discretion of the Faculty or Student Conduct Office and may not be appealed.

If the appeal is unsuccessful, the original date of suspension or expulsion will normally take effect. In this case, the student will not receive credit for any coursework or academic activities completed after that date. This means that courses will be removed from the student record and tuition fees will be credited back to the student’s account. General fees cannot be credited back to the student account.

If the appeal is successful, the student will remain registered.

The University of Calgary, located in the heart of Southern Alberta, both acknowledges and pays tribute to the traditional territories of the peoples of Treaty 7, which include the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprised of the Siksika, the Piikani, and the Kainai First Nations), the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda (including Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney First Nations). The City of Calgary is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta (districts 5 and 6).

The University of Calgary is situated on land Northwest of where the Bow River meets the Elbow River, a site traditionally known as Moh’kins’tsis to the Blackfoot, Wîchîspa to the Stoney Nakoda, and Guts’ists’i to the Tsuut’ina. On this land and in this place we strive to learn together, walk together, and grow together “in a good way.”
