A.5.2.1 The United States and Countries Offering American-Based Curricula

Applicants who are completing or have completed their twelfth year of education in an accredited American-based high school curriculum are considered for admission based on meeting Faculty course requirements and proof of high school graduation. Admission is competitive and meeting the minimum score does not guarantee admission.

Applicants who have attended a university/college should refer to section A.5.3.

Students who are missing required courses for admission consideration may present previously taken SAT subject tests or Advanced Placement (AP) exam as an alternative. The following lists the SAT subject tests and AP Exams that are accepted as equivalents to Alberta high school courses.

The University of Calgary awards advanced credit for specific Advanced Placement courses when a grade of 4 or better is achieved. Students should refer to section A.13 Transfer Credit/Advanced Standing for details.

The University of Calgary, located in the heart of Southern Alberta, both acknowledges and pays tribute to the traditional territories of the peoples of Treaty 7, which include the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprised of the Siksika, the Piikani, and the Kainai First Nations), the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda (including Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney First Nations). The city of Calgary is also home to the Métis Nation within Alberta (including Nose Hill Métis District 5 and Elbow Métis District 6).

The University of Calgary is situated on land Northwest of where the Bow River meets the Elbow River, a site traditionally known as Moh’kins’tsis to the Blackfoot, Wîchîspa to the Stoney Nakoda, and Guts’ists’i to the Tsuut’ina. On this land and in this place we strive to learn together, walk together, and grow together “in a good way.”
