Complete ALL of the following Requirement Sets:

Exception to junior credit limit: Students in the BCMS program are permitted an extra 6 units in junior level courses for a maximum of 54 units at the junior or 200 level. Junior courses transferred as part of the diploma (24 units) count towards this maximum.

Completion requirement
Earn at least 36 credits from the following:

Applicable Diploma: Completion of one of the following two-year diploma programs from SAIT, or an approved equivalent, with a grade point average of 2.00 on all courses.

Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) diplomas:

  • Journalism (Print/Online Journalism; Photojournalism)

  • Interactive Design (Majors in Graphic Design; User Experience; or Web Design and Development)

  • Radio, Television and Broadcast News (Majors in Radio; Television; or Broadcast News)

  • Film and Video Production

Notes:

  • Students who are unsuccessful in applying to the post-secondary institution offering the diploma may transfer to the four-year Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Media Studies at the University of Calgary, or any other University of Calgary program for which they qualify. Courses already completed toward the Bachelor of Communication and Media Studies (BCMS) may be applied toward the Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Media Studies (BA CMDS).

  • Students completing their diploma in the semester prior to graduation will need to ensure that a transcript recording the diploma conferral is received by the University of Calgary by the transcript deadline date. Due to the processing time required, transcripts received after the deadline will be considered for the next convocation period. Please contact the Arts Students' Centre for further information.

The Bachelor of Communication and Media Studies and the Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Media Studies cannot be taken in conjunction with each other.
