Program Admissions Information

In addition to meeting Faculty of Graduate Studies requirements for admission, the Master of Finance program requires the following:
Completion of a four-year bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution*.
Applicants must have completed a minimum of 9 units of coursework (equivalent to three, 3-unit courses) from one or more of the following fields: calculus, statistics, econometrics, quantitative economics, linear algebra, probability theory, or other quantitative disciplines.
A minimum admission grade point average (GPA) of 3.30 calculated over the last 60 units of university-level courses.
Completion of the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) with a recommended score above 600 or an equivalent Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
A current resume.
Two reference letters: At least one letter of reference from an academic source.
For applicants required to present proficiency in English, a minimum TOEFL (iBT) score of 92 (4.5 for tests taken after January 21, 2026) with no section less than 20 (4.0 in reading, writing and speaking; and 4.5 in listening for tests taken after January 21, 2026), an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.5 with no section less than 6.0, or a Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) overall score of 70. This requirement can also be met by completing the Academic Communication Certificate with a minimum overall grade of "A-".

Note: As per Section G.A.1 of the University of Calgary’s Calendar, in exceptional circumstances, individuals who do not meet formal academic requirements but who have significant life achievements may be considered for admission to this program. The candidate must provide evidence demonstrating the potential to successfully undertake the master’s program. Such candidates may also be required to participate in an in-person interview with the Associate Dean, Professional Graduate Programs. In all such cases, the decision whether or not to admit rests with the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies.
