3.1 Faculty of Social Work - Undergraduate Admissions

Prospective students should refer to sections A.5.3 Transferring from another Post-Secondary Institution and A.5.3.2 Supplementary Admission Requirements of this Calendar for regulations regarding University admission requirements. Applicants must meet all requirements and deadlines.

Admission to the Bachelor of Social Work program is competitive and meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission.

Students are admitted to the Bachelor of Social Work program for the Fall Term only. Newly admitted students who do not register and attend the term to which they were admitted must reapply for admission and will be considered using the admission criteria in effect at the time of re-application.

All applicants, including current University of Calgary students, must submit the University of Calgary online application and complete the program-specific questions (https://socialwork.ucalgary.ca/future-students/apply-now/bachelor-social-work) by the deadline specified. Detailed application instructions can be obtained from the Faculty of Social Work website at: socialwork.ucalgary.ca.

Applicants can only apply to one program option (blended or online), and within the blended option only to one location (Calgary, Edmonton or Lethbridge). Applicants who wish to switch their program option and/or location choice (e.g. from blended to online, or from blended Calgary to the blended Edmonton or Lethbridge) must contact the Student Services in the Faculty of Social Work prior to March 1. Requests for change will be considered at the discretion of the Faculty and only for extenuating circumstances.

Students seeking admission to the Faculty of Social Work following a voluntary withdrawal from the program will be considered in competition with new applicants and must meet the admission criteria. Such students are encouraged to consult with Student Services in the Faculty of Social Work before applying.

The University of Calgary, located in the heart of Southern Alberta, both acknowledges and pays tribute to the traditional territories of the peoples of Treaty 7, which include the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprised of the Siksika, the Piikani, and the Kainai First Nations), the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda (including Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney First Nations). The City of Calgary is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta (districts 5 and 6).

The University of Calgary is situated on land Northwest of where the Bow River meets the Elbow River, a site traditionally known as Moh’kins’tsis to the Blackfoot, Wîchîspa to the Stoney Nakoda, and Guts’ists’i to the Tsuut’ina. On this land and in this place we strive to learn together, walk together, and grow together “in a good way.”
