A.5.3 Transferring from Another Post-Secondary Institution

Students are considered post-secondary transfer when they have completed 12 units or more of academic course work from a recognized/accredited institution by December 31 of the year prior to the year of admission.

Applicants who will have completed fewer than 12 units of academic coursework at the post-secondary level by December 31 of the year prior to the year of admission will be considered as a high school applicant using the admission requirements outlined in section A.5.1.1 Undergraduate Admission Requirements.

Admission is competitive and meeting the minimum requirement does not guarantee admission. The minimum admission GPA requirement is 2.00; most programs require a higher admission GPA.

Students are not permitted to register in a University of Calgary degree, diploma or certificate program while simultaneously working towards an academic credential at another institution, unless a formal partnership exists between institutions. Students must obtain permission to register in courses at another post-secondary institution while enrolled in a degree program at the University of Calgary if they would like those courses to be considered for transfer credit. Taking courses at another post-secondary institution without a Letter of Permission may result in a denial of transfer credit. Students who wish to attend the University of Calgary as a visiting student (letter of permission) please see section A.9 Special Admission Categories; A.9.1 Visiting Students.

Applications and supporting documents must be received by the stated deadlines: ucalgary.ca/future-students/undergraduate/how-apply/dates-and-deadlines.

Refer to section A.13 Transfer Credit/Advanced Standing for information on the transfer of credits.

The University of Calgary, located in the heart of Southern Alberta, both acknowledges and pays tribute to the traditional territories of the peoples of Treaty 7, which include the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprised of the Siksika, the Piikani, and the Kainai First Nations), the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda (including Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney First Nations). The city of Calgary is also home to the Métis Nation within Alberta (including Nose Hill Métis District 5 and Elbow Métis District 6).

The University of Calgary is situated on land Northwest of where the Bow River meets the Elbow River, a site traditionally known as Moh’kins’tsis to the Blackfoot, Wîchîspa to the Stoney Nakoda, and Guts’ists’i to the Tsuut’ina. On this land and in this place we strive to learn together, walk together, and grow together “in a good way.”
