Interdisciplinary Degree
The Interdisciplinary Degree allows a qualified graduate student to pursue thesis-based research (Master's, PhD) in an area that does not fit the traditional disciplinary requirements of only one graduate program. The requirements for the student's program are individually tailored to meet their research interests. Research is carried out under the direction and guidance of a Supervisor, Co-Supervisor and Supervisory Committee whose research expertise is relevant to the disciplinary areas. Before applying, students should ensure that both programs of interest offer the same degree (e.g. both programs offer an MA, or both offer an MSc, etc.).

Transdisciplinary Credentials
Transdisciplinary programs are designed to allow students to pursue research or studies that bridge multiple fields and cross disciplinary boundaries.
In thesis-based Transdisciplinary Research programs, students conduct research under the guidance of a Supervisor, Co-Supervisor, and Supervisory Committee, who collectively possess expertise relevant to the areas of study.
In course-based Transdisciplinary Studies programs, students have the option of taking a stand-alone Graduate Certificate in Transdisciplinary Studies or combining it with another UCalgary Graduate Certificate and laddering to a Master of Transdisciplinary Studies. 246
All Transdisciplinary credentials include a course on Transdisciplinary Scholarship. Thesis-based programs also feature a course on Transdisciplinary Knowledge Engagement, where students engage with community and industry partners.
The Faculty of Graduate Studies offers Transdisciplinary credentials at the Certificate, Masters and PhD levels.
