Master of Arts (MA) Course-based in Greek and Roman Studies

In addition to Faculty of Graduate Studies requirements and Faculty of Arts requirements, the Department requires:

a) course, first-year course on research and professional training.

b) 24 units of other seminar courses; these may include up to 6 units outside the department if relevant to the student's particular interests in the field.

c) 6 units (four courses) of directed studies in Greek and Latin texts (course or course), normally taken in Fall and Winter Terms of the first and second year (worth 1.5 units each). Greek 607 or Latin 607 may be replaced with Greek or Latin 602 and/or 604.

d) Reading knowledge of French or German or Italian.

The department may require up to two additional courses (6 units) in order to ensure sufficient preparation in relevant areas for the MA. Students are advised of any such requirements upon entry into the program.

Flexible Grade Option (CG Grade)

The Greek and Roman Studies program in the department Of Classics and Religion will not permit the Flexible Grade Option (CG Grade) for any course offered by the Greek and Roman Studies Program.

Students may not choose the CG grade for a course taken extra to load.

The use of the CG grade will affect students' eligibility for internal awards.

Credit for Undergraduate Courses

Not more than four courses (12 units) in the course-based program, may be taken at the 500 level.

Time Limit

Students studying on a full-time basis are expected to complete the Master’s program in two years. Students in course-based master’s programs must complete their degrees within six years.
