G.2.4 Deferral of Term Work
Term work is defined as any assessment identified on the course outline that is due on or prior to the last day of classes.
a. Term Work due Before the End of Classes:
Subject to any established departmental or faculty procedures, instructors may establish their own deadlines for the deferred completion of in-course assessments prior to the end of the term in which the course is scheduled. Students must be made aware of any departmental or faculty procedures on the course outline. In exceptional circumstances, requests for extensions beyond the end of term must be approved by the Dean or designate and be sent to the Office of the Registrar.
b. Term Work due After the End of the Term:
Should a request to defer a non-timed final assessment due during the final exam period (i.e., take home exam, paper, presentation etc.) or an in-course assessment exceed the end of the term, a Deferral of Term Work form must be completed and submitted to the Office of the Registrar. The approved deferral will be recorded on the student record. Deferrals are granted at the discretion of the Dean or designate and are granted for a maximum of 30 days beyond the last day of the term. Should extraordinary circumstances warrant an exception, the maximum amount of additional time that may be granted for a deferral of term work is one additional term with approval from the Dean or designate.
For deferral of final exam regulations see section G.3 Final Examinations.
In exceptional circumstances, requests for extensions must be approved by the Dean or designate and submitted to the Office of the Registrar. Application information is available at: ucalgary.ca/registrar/student-centre/student-forms.
See section G.2.3 Absence from In-Course Assessments for additional information regarding absences from tests.
