G.2.2 Scheduling of In-Course Assessments

The timing, location, modality, and any technology requirements of all timed assessments in a course must be clearly articulated in the course outline.

a. Timed in-course assessments are required to take place during scheduled class time.

b. Timed assessments must be designed to be completed within the time allocated for the course component. For example, a 50-minute class would have a test designed to take 50 minutes or less to complete.

c. Courses that have received approval from the Dean or designate to administer a common in-course assessment that start and end at the same time but fall outside of regular class time, are required to provide alternative arrangements for students unable to complete the assessment during the designated common time. The procedure for scheduling an assessment at an alternative time must be clearly outlined in the course outline.

d. Approved synchronous in-course assessments for online asynchronous courses must be noted on the course outline with the scheduled date, start, and end time.

e. Courses delivered in-person or in a blended modality: the modality for in-course assessments must be specified in the approved course outline.

f. Mid-year tests for multi-term (Part A/B) courses must occur during the final examination period scheduled by the Registrar, except for mid-year assessments that are take-home, oral, or project-based assessments.

g. Mid-year assessments in the JD, MD, DVM, and graduate programs in the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape and the MBA program must meet the assessment requirements noted in the course outline.

The University of Calgary, located in the heart of Southern Alberta, both acknowledges and pays tribute to the traditional territories of the peoples of Treaty 7, which include the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprised of the Siksika, the Piikani, and the Kainai First Nations), the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda (including Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney First Nations). The City of Calgary is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta (districts 5 and 6).

The University of Calgary is situated on land Northwest of where the Bow River meets the Elbow River, a site traditionally known as Moh’kins’tsis to the Blackfoot, Wîchîspa to the Stoney Nakoda, and Guts’ists’i to the Tsuut’ina. On this land and in this place we strive to learn together, walk together, and grow together “in a good way.”
