G.D.5 Graduate Program Withdrawals


Following any withdrawal, it is the student's responsibility to ensure that all outstanding fees are paid. Fees for subsequent terms will be cancelled upon withdrawal.

Voluntary Withdrawal

Students wishing to withdraw from a graduate program at the University of Calgary must submit a voluntary withdrawal service request through their Student Centre.

Voluntary withdrawal will be indicated on a student’s transcript. Students under review for academic or non-academic misconduct are not permitted to withdraw during a review process.

Required to Withdraw

A student may be required to withdraw from a graduate program at the University of Calgary due to one or more of the following: poor academic standing, candidacy failure, failure to maintain progress, exceeding maximum time in program or thesis defence failure.

Required to withdraw will be indicated on a student’s transcript.

After being required to withdraw, a student is not eligible to apply for readmission to the same graduate program or for admission to a different graduate program at the University of Calgary for a minimum of one year from the date of the required to withdraw decision.

Withdrawal for Failure to Register

A student may be withdrawn from a graduate program at the University of Calgary for failure to maintain their registration according to section G.D.1 Registration.

Withdrawn for failure to register will be indicated on a student’s transcript.

After a withdrawal for failure to register, a student may apply for reactivation in accordance with section G.A.9. or may be required to apply for readmission in accordance with section G.A.8.
